Mr. Emmett Jamison Horne, ( E.J.) age 79, of Yulee, FL, formerly of Fort Valley, GA passed away on Saturday morning, October 29, 2016, under the care of Community Hospice at the Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach, FL.
Born in Roberta, GA, he was the youngest and last living of three sons born to the late Henry and Hallie Merritt Horne. He grew up in Roberta before joining and serving in the U.S. Army from where he was honorably discharged. Mr. Horne owned and operated Horne’s Grocery in Fort Valley for many years. During his life, he also lived in the Orlando, FL area and Ohio. In 2010, he and his wife, the former, Carol Mae Foraker moved from Ohio to Fernandina Beach, FL. His wife passed away in 2011.
An accomplished musician, in his early years Mr. Horne wrote music and enjoyed playing drums in area bands.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his two brothers, Henry and Carlton Horne and his niece Pamela Horne.
Mr. Horne leaves behind, two daughters, Pam Holmberg and her husband, John, Fernandina Beach, FL, Teresa “Terri” Stanford and her husband, Dennis, LaGrange, GA, four grandchildren, Storie Pollard (Jay), Shaun Forbes (Kacie), Tara Vaughn (Cory), Tiffanie Partain (Lane), great grandchildren, Lyric Mitchell, Gracelynn Forbes, Hayden Forbes, Jayden Pollard, Avery Vaughn, Kendall Forbes, Sydney Vaughn, Lainie Partain, Livvie Partain, Griffin Partain, a nephew, Steve Horne and two nieces, Mitzi Horne and Carla Wyatt.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 12, 2016 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley Heard.
His family will receive friends, on Saturday, at the funeral home, from 10:00 am until the hour of the service.
