Hugh Robert “Bob” McKain, age 77 of Fernandina Beach, FL passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2020.
He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and at the age of eight he moved to Jacksonville, FL. Bob was a graduate of the University of Florida where he obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Forestry. He met the love of his life, Shirley Jean McKain, while working in Alabama. After having a relationship for 20 years, they were married and started their life together in Fernandina Beach, FL. Bob and Shirley spent 24 wonderful years together in marriage.
After 30 years of working for Old Container Corporation of America, Bob retired. This gave Bob the opportunity to spend time doing what he loved most. He had a passion for golf in which he was able to share with his wife, Shirley, after teaching her to play. He would always say he worked just so she could golf. And as a true alumni of the University of Florida, Bob loved the Florida Gators and would support them whether they had a winning or losing season. Bob’s character was nothing short of a true gentlemen. For he loved his family and friends immensely. His loving spirit and smile will forever be remembered and cherished by all that knew him.
Bob is preceded in death by his father, Hugh Rudisell McKain; his mother, Thelma Madge Arnold McKain; brother, Arnold McKain; daughter, Tracy Whitley; grandson, Kyle Whitley; and son-in-law, Christopher Hutcheson.
