James J. Allen

James J. Allen

September 1, 1955 - January 2, 2019     Age: 63

James Judson Allen, Jr., known to all of his friends and family as “Jud”, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at his home in Fernandina Beach, Florida.

He was born on September 1, 1955, in Tallahassee, Florida, to James Judson Allen and Betty Lee Allen (Brown).  He lived his whole life in his beloved Tallahassee, graduating from Godby High School in 1973, and going on to study computer programming at Tallahassee Community College.

He worked in the construction and building code field at the City of Quincy, Florida State University, and Leon County.  He had recently taken the position of Building Director at the City of Fernandina Beach and was looking forward to finishing his career in a beautiful place he was growing to love.

Jud loved all things sports-related, but nothing even came close to his love for his Florida State Seminoles.  He saw his first game at eight years old, and they were “his” team ever since.  He could rant and rave about their performances, but no one else was allowed to disparage them.  He loved construction and building, and was constantly working on projects and ideas.  He loved his family, pups and his home.  Jud was intelligent and funny, cranky and loving, and fiercely loyal to those he cared about.

Jud is survived by his wife of twelve years, Lori Lee Allen, his parents, his son, Carl Judson Allen, step-daughter, Nikki Poole (Jason), step-son, Kevin Baker, the loves of his life, his granddaughters, Lyla (10) and Frances (7) Poole, brother James Allen (Sharon), brother Danny Allen (Cathy), sister Carla Campbell, sister Suzan Blackburn, and countless aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and life-long friends.

There will be no local services but the family will have a Celebration of Life held on Saturday, 1/12/2019, beginning at 3:00 PM at Bevis Funeral Home in Tallahassee.

Jud was one of a kind and anyone that became his friend was lucky to have him in their lives. He was my friend and confidant. I will miss his contagious laugh and smile. My thoughts and prayers go out to Lori, Carl and his entire family.

Jud and I attended Amos P. Godby high school and graduated together. I will always remember him as kind and witty. I last saw him in 2003, when we got together to celebrate an “ unofficial” 30- year high school reunion. He was the one who suggested that we end our evening with a visit to the Village Inn. Tom Burkes and Ronny Golden were also there. Ronny has since left us, too. What a special moments with old friends. Jud, you will be sorely missed.
