John Joseph Bateman

John Joseph Bateman

October 3, 1979 - September 18, 2017     Age: 37

John Joseph Bateman, age 37, of Yulee, FL passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017 at his residence.

He was born on October 3, 1979 in Bunnell, FL son of Joseph Booe Bateman, Jr., and Minnie Mae Deen.

In 1988 his family moved to Fernandina Beach where he was a graduate of Fernandina Beach High School, Class of 1997.  After high school, John attended Florida State Community College where he earned an Associate of Science Degree in Digital Media Arts/Multimedia Technology, majoring in video/TV production. He began a career in Internet Technology with AOL at the Customer Service Center in North Jacksonville before joining the Technical Support Team of SIATECH and then running his own business.  In 2014 he joined the family business, The Ogburn School, as the Director of IT Services.

John was incredibly creative, channeling his ingenuity through the creation of new digital music and remixing and remastering old selections.   He was an avid animal lover, having rescued and cared for dozens of animals over the years. He enjoyed gardening, drawing, Star Trek and reading.  His friend and family use words like generous, smart and fun to describe him – but most of all, he was kind.

He leaves behind his wife, Amber Gum, daughter Madelyn Gum both of Jacksonville, FL, mother, Minnie D. (Charles) Ogburn of Yulee, Fl, father, Joseph “Jody” B. (Mickie) Bateman of Satsuma, FL and sister, Brandy Carvalho of Fernandina Beach, FL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 23, 2017 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley Heard.

The family will receive friends, on Saturday, from 10:00 am until the hour of service at Oxley-Heard.

He will be laid to rest in Espanola Cemetery in Bunnell, FL at 3:00 pm.

If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to Cat Angels, 709 South 8th St., Fernandina Beach, FL  32034 or Sunshine Corgi Rescue, 3900 Valley Lane, Titusville, FL 32780

John and my cousin Alan were friends, and I really enjoyed my conversations with him over the years. We’ve been working beside each other in the same complex now for a while, and I’ve loved seeing his car and knowing how small the world can be. I am so sad to hear of his passing.

John was a kind soul with a beautiful smile. You could feel his love within his smile. He will be missed beyond measure!! He was an excellent friend and neighbor. It saddens our hearts to not be able to see him anymore or hear his laugh. Our prayers are with his family, we pray God fills his Mom and Brandi with so much strength to get them through this difficult journey in life. We are proud to call him our friend and he will always hold a very special place in our hearts forever! Rest in peace John and play the beautiful music you love so with the Angels. We love you our brother in Christ!
