Maggie Collier

Maggie B. Flournoy Collier, 92 of Jacksonville, Fl., passed away Monday morning, February 15, 2016 at the Taylor Care Center in Jacksonville, Fl. Born May 5, 1923 in Cumming, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Samuel and Hattie Bannister Bailey of Cumming. Her family moved to Vienna, Georgia where she attended Vienna High School, was the class Salutatorian and a member of the Girls Basketball Team. In 1942 she married Lionel Flournoy. She worked at Warner Robbins Air Force Base in Warner Robbins, Ga. while her husband served in the Army during World War II .

After living in several different cities she moved to Jacksonville in 1956. Upon settling in Jacksonville she joined the Federal Reserve Bank where she worked as a Treasury Clerk until retiring in 1973. In 1984, she married Estin Collier. Mrs. Collier was a longtime member of the Tenth Street Baptist Church and later became a member of the Pecan Park Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Fl. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, sewing and helping others by volunteering at her church. She single handily raised her three daughters. She leaves behind her daughters and son-in-laws, Sandra and George Walko of Fruit Cove, FL, Patricia and Cecil Kimberly of Jacksonville, Fl., and Sharon Horne of Tampa, Fl, her brother Charles Bailey of Bainbridge, Ga. and five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday (TODAY) in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley Heard Funeral Home with Dr. Tom Drury, officiating.

Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, at the funeral home, from 1:00pm until the hour of service.

Mrs. Collier will be laid to rest at 11:00 am on Wednesday in the Lane Cemetery near Vienna, Georgia. A reception will follow at the home of her niece and husband, Arlene and Charles Holmes in Cordele, GA.
