Melody Barnhart

April 10, 1951 - March 1, 2018     Age: 66

Mrs. Melody Barnhart, 66, of Callahan passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the Acosta-Rua Center for Caring in Jacksonville.

Born in New Castle, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Tony and Sarah Pollock Moses.

Over 40 years ago, she met her husband Fred D. Barnhart during the early stages of the development of the Argyle Forest area of Jacksonville. Fred was surveying in the area and Melody was operating a bulldozer. She also operated other heavy equipment in her younger life.

Melody had various careers through the years but she had really come to enjoy retirement. She loved her swimming pool and billiards. Along with Fred, she loved going to the movies and exploring new restaurants.

In addition to Fred and the rest of her family Melody dearly loved her black Labradors, Smokey and Sugar.

Her surviving family includes her husband of 40 years, Fred D. Barnhart of Callahan; a son, Fred (Staci) Barnhart, Jr., of Orange Park; her siblings, Marcia Gwynne of Peachtree City, Georgia and Mark (Karen) Moses of Chino Valley, Arizona; a sister in law, Sandy (Ruby) Barnhart of Jacksonville; a brother in law, Gary (Mai) Barnhart of Jacksonville; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Melody’s family and friends will gather at a later date at Jacksonville National Cemetery for burial and a moment of remembrance.

All of the beach Ribault gang loved Mel . She and Dude as we called Fred gave us many laughs and memories. Melody was the type of person you didn’t ask how does this outfit look on me if you didn’t want the truth because she would tell you. That’s exactly the kind of friend I love. She didn’t color coat anything she got down to brass tacks and you got it straight. Fly high my friend you will be greatly missed. Your smile and laugh was absolutely contagious. I love you.

Please accept my mournful composition and deepest condolence. Such a beautiful lady, she no doubt brought joy to her family and friends. Death represents the loss of future dreams, relationships and experiences that have not yet been enjoyed. In the Bible, Acts 17:31 said ‘God has provided a guarantee to all people by resurrecting Jesus from the dead’. This guarantee transcends to all humans so we can see our loved ones again. I pray this hope will comfort those in mourning.
