Patrick was a good friend and a hard worker. He was always ready to make new friends and share his knowledge of history with them. When I started at Fort Clinch at the age of 13 Pat was one of the first friends I made there. He was always willing to help teach history. Much of what I know today comes from my friendship with this man.

In 2010 I moved away from Fernandina and Fort Clinch. Today I work in Middle G.A. at a historic site. I think a lot about the 8 years I spent at Fort Clinch and the friends I made there. Patrick is often one of the first that come to mind. He was a good person, a good friend, and will be deeply missed.

Patrick was a rare and awesome individual. As one of the cousins that spent part of his childhood with him in Missouri his kindness was evident even as a child. After his move to Florida, our favorite family vacations were going to visit Patrick and his family. As we grew up and saw each other at family gatherings, Patrick always insisted on hearing about me and mine before sharing about himself. When visiting him as an adult, he entertained all of us, especially my children, Jennifer and Matthew, with his knowledge of all the treasured artifacts he collected from the Civil War. Patrick was all about family. In fact, when trying to explain how we were all related to a child, Patrick said, ” We are all family and that is what matters!” We will miss you Patrick!
