Condolences:

Charlie and I always enjoyed our time together, whether we were on or (on one occasion, in the water!). He was my best friend, always there to lend a hand or offer advice. I will sorely miss my fishing buddy.

Charles E. Myler
2024-09-21
Charles E. Myler (Charlie), 82, of Amelia Island, Florida, passed away on September 21, 2024. Charlie was born on April 21, 1942, in Albany, Georgia to James and Velma “Babe” Myler.
Charlie was a graduate of St. Teresa’s Catholic School, Albany High School, Valdosta State University, and the Graduate School of Banking at LSU. Charlie spent 36 years with the FDIC, including 21 years as the Field Office Supervisor in his hometown. After retirement from federal service, Charlie served eight years on the Board of Directors of Colony Bank and for 16 years trained the next generation of bank examiners for the State of Alabama. He said his time with the State Banking Department was the highlight of his 52-year career in banking/regulating.
A lifelong member of the Catholic Church, Charlie had a deep faith and served on the parish council and worship committee and as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Teresa’s. After moving to Amelia Island, he became a faithful parishioner of St. Michael’s.
Throughout his life, he found solace and hope in his faith, and he was unwavering in his passion for Jesus and the Church. Charlie followed Jesus’ call to love your neighbor. He made friends quickly with his authenticity and willingness to offer a helping hand.
In his personal time, when not spending time with his family, Charlie enjoyed golf, fishing, gardening, college football (Roll Tide), and Republican politics. He was always active—looking for a project, cheering for his teams, arguing with the television, and caring for his home and yard. In his later years, Charlie found great companionship with his much loved dog Gus. They were a perfect pair and brought one another great joy and comfort.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, James Myler and Velma Myler Darby, and his brothers—Richard, Claude, and James (Budge), and his niece, Sissy Myler Craft. He is survived by Judy, his wife of 52 years, his daughter Ashley Klick (Paul), his son Andrew (Julia), his cherished grandchildren (Chappy and Ellis Klick), and his beloved nephews (Richard, Billy, David, Joe, Brian and Cory), niece (Monica), and extended family.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Albany, Georgia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Teresa’s Church, 421 Edgewood Lane, Albany, GA 31707, St. Michael Catholic Church, 201 N 4th St, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034 or Community Hospice Jane and Bill Warner Center for Caring.
