Evelyn Stinson Drury

Mrs. Evelyn Stinson Drury, 94, of Fernandina Beach passed away at her home on Tuesday, February 7, 2023.

Born in Jacksonville she was a daughter of the late Adolpus and Mary Addison Bessent. She was raised in Jacksonville and moved to Fernandina Beach as a young lady in 1949.

She worked for the Nassau County School System as a Lunchroom Assistant for many years and retired in 1988. She was affectionately known to many of the students as “Granny”. Mrs. Drury always the kind of lady who always stayed busy. She loved to cook. She always welcomed anybody to her table whether they were family, friends or the unexpected visitor. She loved all she came in contact with treated them all as if they were family.

Mrs. Drury was active in working at her church too. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church for 70 years.

In addition to being predeceased by her parents and all her siblings she was predeceased by a son and grandson as well.

She leaves behind her children, Barbara Shelton of Fernandina Beach, Elaine (Henry) Bennett of Fayetteville, NC, Charles Stinson of Fayetteville, NC and John “Matt” Stinson of Jacksonville; her sister, Lavohn Crews of Hilliard; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren as well as an extended family of several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Drury will be held Friday, February 10, 2023 beginning at 11:00 AM at Memorial United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM.

She will be laid to rest at Bosque Bello Cemetery.

The family asks that donations be made, in her memory, to Memorial United Methodist Church or Community Hospice and Palliative Care of NE Florida.
