Peggy, I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. I am somewhat out of touch with Fernandina and had n heard about it. I am grateful that we reconnected through our high school reunions and that you and John joined us for lunch in Gainesville a few years ago. It is then when we figured out that we met in the first grade. Mel and I send our condolences and wanted you to know how much we cared and that we were thinking of you.

I was very sad to hear of Johnny’s recent passing. I was good friends with Johnny, Skipper Hill and Pent Penton, and remember their happy-go-lucky attitudes and friendship in high school! I had lost contact with Johnny and was unaware of his illness. Peggy, you and Johnny were always a happy pair in my memory. I pray that our Awesome God will walk with you, your children, as well as Stuart & Nola during this difficult time. We will be praying for you and your family.

As you probably remember, Johnny, Skipper Hill and Pent were like the three musketeers at Fernandina Beach High School, and there were several times that you and Johnny and we double dated in Johnny's father's Olds 98. As a neighbor, I got to know this man in the past few years. He was the consummate Southern gentleman with a great family legacy in this region. He had a remarkable business career which he humbly downplayed whenever asked about it. Despite a protracted and oft times painful illness, his positive outlook and good cheer never flagged. He had enormous strength and courage in his character. Definitely 'the right stuff' which anyone who got to know him could sense immediately. But about all, when asked about his life, he stated and ended with stories about his true love-- his wife Peggy. John will be greatly missed but never forgotten by those who knew him.

John was a close neighbor and friend, who was always in good spirts in spite of his recent illness. We will miss him very much. Our hearts go out to Peggy and the Davis family..

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Davis. He was a great man and I’m so glad I was able to know him as I was growing up. Jennie and I were great friends. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs. Davis, John and Jennie during this sad time.
