Mary Ann “Polly” Renedo

2025-09-03

Mary Ann “Polly” Renedo, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on Amelia Island, Florida, on September 3, 2025, surrounded by her devoted husband and family. She was 89.

Born on May 8, 1936, in Wheeling, West Virginia, to Louise and Edward Pell, she was known affectionately as Polly from childhood. She graduated from Penn State University and soon after moved to New York City, where she worked in retail for several years. Upon returning to Wheeling, she met the love of her life, Dr. Jess Renedo, while working in the laboratory at Ohio Valley General Hospital. Swept off her feet by the dashing young doctor from Spain, Polly and Jess married and began a life full of adventure together.

They first settled in Tacoma, Washington, where their eldest son, David, was born. A short time living in Spain followed before returning to Wheeling, where they welcomed their daughter, Carmina, and second son, Jamie.

Polly devoted her life to her family as a loving homemaker and was active in her community. She volunteered at the hospital and her children’s schools, and she also taught English to foreign students.

In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, golfing, playing bridge, and hosting unforgettable parties, especially the annual summer lobster parties. She and Jess traveled extensively, and Polly cherished the many lifelong friendships she built along the way. She especially loved late-night talks under the awn.

Polly is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Dr. Jess Renedo; her three children, David Renedo, Carmina Renedo, and Jamie Renedo; and her four grandchildren, Nikolai, Hanna, Elsa, and Sabina.

A private cremation will take place on Amelia Island, with a celebration of Polly’s life will be held at a later date.

“Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day.”
