Renate Magnus-Sharpe, 76, of Amelia Island, FL passed away peacefully on Monday, January 29, 2018.

She was born in Wiesbaden, Germany in 1941, to the late Ehrhard and Johanna Magnus. She studied Art in Switzerland. In 1964 she met the love of her life, John Robert Sharpe, in Germany on active duty with the Air Force. For the next 49 years they raised their family, raised a little hell, and held hands as they shared their lives together, until the �12th of never.�

She is survived by her children, Patrick (Michelle) Sharpe, and Marc (Sarah) Magnus-Sharpe; stepson James (Mimi) Sharpe, and dear grandchildren, John David Magnus-Sharpe, Dylan Sharpe, Connor Sharpe, Bailey Sharpe and Cali Sharpe, as well as her faithful cats, Smokey and Beanie, and cockatiel Joey.

Those who knew Renate, knew her to be one or all of three things, first and foremost: an exceptional cook, who dedicated hours each day to preparing the finer homemade things in life: rouladen and dumplings, lump crab cakes, desserts, and many German traditional meals; an outspoken animal lover, often known to care more for many a neighbor�s pets, as well as nurture the local wildlife as suburban sprawl crept into the neighboring woods. The �Caution: Duck Crossing� sign is well remembered in the Virginia neighborhood where she lived for over 35 years; and, third, an outspoken and authentic individual, rarely inclined to hold back if she felt something needed to be said. Fortunately for those at the receiving end of those moments, they were most often assured an excellent meal and dessert for their trouble.

Retiring to Amelia Island, Renate loved the ocean, returning often to search for shells and shark�s teeth.

In lieu of flowers, she�d have encouraged everyone to walk along the beach, or make a contribution in her name to the Humane Society of Nassau County.
