A.Byron Chapman, III, AIA, 80, passed away Monday July 11, following a brief illness. Raised in Decatur, Georgia, he was the son of a YMCA Physical Director and a teacher. Mr. Chapman later received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology, followed by a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Chapman's professional career focused on the design of hospitality facilities, including hotels, resorts, convention and conference centers nationwide. During his career, he was honored with 12 American Institute of Architects design excellence awards, including one for Phase I of the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mr. Chapman is survived by one brother, his wife Elizabeth, 5 sons and 5 daughters and several grandchildren.

His Life Celebration will be held at Amelia Baptist Church, 961167 Buccaneer Trail, Fernandina Beach, FL on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Dr. Neil Helton, officiating.
