Although we only had the pleasure of getting to know Al on a couple of occasions, we feel we knew him well from the character, compassion and fun loving nature he passed on to his son Nick. Our condolences to Al’s family and friends who knew him best. May your joyful moments be foremost in your thoughts of a good and caring soul.

Alfred “Al” George Paasche, Jr.

2024-06-30

Alfred “Al” George Paasche, Jr., 69, of St. Augustine, Florida, died on June 30, 2024. He was a kind and easy-going man, who enjoyed seafood, surfing and spending time with his family at their Salt Springs lake house, which he and his family built from the ground up.

Al was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina, to Helen and Alfred Paasche, Sr., who was stationed there with the U.S. Marine Corps. Al inherited a love of shrimp from Helen, whose brothers were local shrimpers, and a deep passion for Gator football from Alfred. He became a master carpenter while working with his father, and he helped construct many homes and businesses in Fernandina and the Jacksonville beaches.

Al and Lori Paasche share sons Nicholas and Dillon Paasche, who Al adored. Al and Nick were especially close in his final years having traveled recently to the Bahamas, Florida Keys and Tennessee, when they weren’t watching action movies or the Miami Marlins. He and Dillon shared a love of construction and the Florida Gators. Family pets Rocky and Cooper were also some of Al’s best friends.

Al loved his younger sister and brother, Denise Clements and Alan Paasche, and the siblings and their families remained close throughout his life. He loved his weekly barbecue lunches with Denise and spending time in Alan’s pool room surrounding by Gators memorabilia and sharing memories.

Al was preceded in death by parents Helen and Alfred Paasche, Sr., sister-in-law Cheryl Paasche (Alan) and brother-in-law George Clements (Denise). He is survived by sons Nicholas and Dillon, sister Denise Clements, brother Alan Paasche, niece Stephanie Green and nephews Ryan Burns, Tanner Lee and Brandon Lee, as well as many beloved cousins.

A service to remember and celebrate Al’s life will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 12:00 PM in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors.
