So many memories to cherish. Mine begins with giving her her third grandchild. She loved her dearly but she also took me into the fold. Another memory of the day Emma was born was her admission that she met a very handsome man named John. Their life together was full of love and travel. A life to be envious of. Andrea’s life was one we can all hope to aspire to. I will miss her humor and be forever grateful of all the ways that she took care of all of us.

My most cherished memories of my grandma are the times I would come to visit and we would spend the day together eating, saying hello to friends, shopping, and ending the night with ice cream. Doing the mundane simple things in life with her reminded me what a genuine and loving soul she was. She always knew how to make you feel special and loved.

Andrea Raye Mateer

2025-11-08

Andrea Raye Mateer, 77, of Fernandina Beach, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, following a devastating neurological event.

Born in Zanesville, Ohio, in 1948, Andrea was the beloved daughter of Marjorie and Andrew Ray Kolometz. After graduating high school, she moved to Florida, where she earned her MBA and began a successful career in Human Resources and Labor Relations with CSX Transportation.

Andrea’s life was a testament to resilience, hard work, and the pursuit of the American Dream. After retiring, she found joy and fulfillment through painting. Her artwork was exhibited at the Island Art Association, Fern and Dina’s, and Shady Ladies Art Galleries. Andrea and her husband, John, shared a love of travel and art, and together they explored the world as accomplished artists.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 20 years, John; daughter Amanda Bowen; son Aaron Clouse; stepdaughters Carrie Lambright and Elizabeth Hill; and granddaughters Cassidy Bowen, Gracie Bowen, and Emma Clouse, who will forever cherish her memory and the values she instilled in them.

A Celebration of Life for Andrea will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home, 1305 Atlantic Avenue, Fernandina Beach, Florida 32034.

Rather than flowers, the family asks that donations in Andrea’s memory be made to the Community Hospice Alice and T. O’Neal Douglas Center for Caring, or to the Nassau County Council on Aging.
