Angela Jones Conway

Maude Angela Jones Conway passed away on November 24, 2024.

She was born at St. Vincents Hospital on August 27, 1941, the daughter of Earle Edward and Florence Wolff Jones. Angie attended West Riverside, John Gorrie and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1959. She attended Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia and subsequently earned her B.A. in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park. Angie was a member of the 1961 Debutante coterie. She was among the group chosen to represent the city of Jacksonville in the Florida Pavilion at the 1964/65 World’s Fair in New York City. At the close of the Fair, she moved to Washington D.C. where she would reside for almost 50 years. She met and married her husband, the late Alvin Jones Arnett, in Washington.

Angie began phase two of her life after receiving her J.D. in 1983 from the Columbus School of Law, Catholic University. She joined the General Counsel’s office of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) rising to become Assistant General Counsel. PBGC was unique in government in that it enjoyed independent litigating authority. Angie had the opportunity of appearing on behalf of PBGC in federal district courts across the country. She left PBGC to serve for 12 years as senior counsel and chief retirement security lobbyist for the American Council of Life Insurers, the trade association of the life insurance industry.

She joined the Social Security Administration in the Office of Retirement
Policy where she was detailed to the White House Conference on Aging There she served as Director of Economic Security issues for this decennial event. She returned to SSA as the Assistant Deputy Commissioner for Legislative and Congressional Affairs. Angie was appointed as an Administrative Appellate Judge in the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review by the Commissioner of Social Security in 2012.

She married her high school sweetheart, Charles Milton Conway, Jr., in 2014, when she retired to Fernandina. They shared 7 happy years together.

She leaves behind three children, Paul Arnett (Lisa), Julie Arnett Bolton and Amelia Arnett Poch (Greg) and ten grandchildren, Sydni, Georgia and Luke Arnett, Ben and Matthew Bolton, and Layton, Julia, Bobby, Maryangela and Frances Poch.

She was a member of St. Peter’s altar guild and a member of the Historic District Council in Fernandina.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Peter’s Parish, 801 Atlantic Avenue, Fernandina Beach, 32034, on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at 11:00 AM with lunch in Burns Hall following the service.

She will be laid to rest with her husband, Charles at Bosque Bello Cemetery.
