In Loving Memory of Angharad Angharad was a truly special person whose presence touched the lives of so many. For nearly 17 years, she was my piano and voice teacher, but she became so much more than a mentor — she became a treasured friend. Through all those years, she shared not only her incredible talent and knowledge of music, but also her kindness, patience, encouragement, and warmth. She had a way of making each lesson meaningful, and the time we spent together became memories I will always hold close. Angharad will always be remembered for the gift she gave to others through her music and through the love and care she showed. The lessons she taught me went far beyond piano and voice; she inspired confidence, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for the beauty of music. Although I miss Angharad deeply, I am so grateful for the many years I had with her and for the friendship we shared. Her impact on my life will remain forever, and the memories we created will always have a special place in my heart. Angharad, you are at rest now. I hope you know how deeply you were loved and valued. Thank you being such an important part of my life. You will never be forgotten.

Mrs. Angharad was a beautiful lady, inside and out. We were so blessed to get connected with her in Amelia Island as Merritt's piano teacher. Truly a one-of-a-kind soul who touched all who had the pleasure of knowing her from her time spent in SW Georgia, Roanoke and Amelia. Now she is singing with the angels.

Angharad was so much more than my voice teacher. She was my mentor, spiritual advisor, and friend. Her wisdom, strength, and genuine love has profoundly touched my life. I find myself asking in situation, "what would Angharad do?". Her life was truly a testimony of faith, perseverance and above all else, love. You are already missed my dearest Angharad. But your legacy will live on in the lives of all those you touched. With much love and gratitude.

Angharad was one of those rare people who always exuded positivity and it was a pleasure to be in her company. Janet and I fell blessed to have known her and are most grateful for teaching Clyde to sing with a beautiful tone! Thank you for sharing your joy with us.

Angharad Carmichael Sinclair

2026-06-17

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Angharad Carmichael Sinclair on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at the age of 83.

Angharad was born on March 16, 1943, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Reverend James M. and Esther (Tilley) Carmichael.
Angharad graduated from Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, North Carolina and received her Master of Music Degree from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.

For more than three decades in Virginia’s Roanoke Valley, Angharad was a beloved and influential figure in the musical community. Alongside her husband, she laid the foundation in the founding of Southwest Virginia Opera Society, now known as Opera Roanoke, as well as performing the leading roles in the initial productions. Her passion for music ministry also led her to serve as Director of Music at Colonial Avenue Baptist Church, Cave Spring United Methodist Church, and Unity of Roanoke Valley, where her leadership, musicianship, and faith touched countless lives.

Music was the fabric of Angharad's life. Blessed with a remarkable singing voice, she shared her gift with countless people throughout the years. Whether singing on stage, in church, teaching her students, or filling a room with song among family and friends, her voice brought comfort, joy, and inspiration to those who heard it. Her love for music was not simply a talent—it was a ministry. Through every note she sang, she reflected the beauty, faith, and hope that defined her life. The memories of her voice and the lives she touched through it will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

For over 60 years, Angharad welcomed students into her home, offering private voice and piano instruction with patience, excellence, and genuine love. She nurtured not only musicians, but confidence, discipline, and creativity in generations of students. Many of her former students went on to pursue careers in music, while others simply carried with them a lifelong appreciation for the gift she shared. To each student, she gave the same encouragement, wisdom, and belief in their potential that defined her life.

Angharad lived a life marked by unwavering faith, remarkable courage, and boundless love for her family, friends, and students. She faced every season of life with grace and determination, trusting fully in God through both joys and trials.

Above all else, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend. Her greatest gift was her ability to make others feel loved, valued, and seen. Whether through a warm conversation, a listening ear, or a word of encouragement, she left an indelible mark on countless lives.

Throughout her final illness, Angharad displayed extraordinary bravery. Even as her body grew weary, her spirit remained steadfast. She met each challenge with dignity and faith, surrounded by the love of her family and the prayers of those who cared for her. Her courage became a testimony to everyone privileged to walk alongside her during her journey.

A woman of deep faith, she trusted in God's promises and found strength in knowing that this world was not her final home. Her life reflected kindness, perseverance, compassion, and a servant's heart. She taught those around her not only through her words, but through the example she set each day.

Angharad is survived by her daughter Andrea Sinclair and son R. Christopher Sinclair (wife Maren Brisson); brother James W. Carmichael (husband Richard Ferlita). She is also survived by grandchildren Hannah Sloan, Morgan Sinclair, Lawson Sinclair, and Preston Sinclair, as well as cherished friends, and many students whose lives were enriched by her guidance and encouragement.

Angharad is predeceased by her former spouse Robert Sinclair; daughter Mary Tennette Sinclair, and brothers J. Randy Carmichael and Joel M. Carmichael.

While our hearts ache in her absence, we rejoice in the assurance that she is healed, whole, and at peace in the presence of the Lord. Her legacy of faith, love, and courage will continue to inspire all who knew her.

"Well done, good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23

A celebration of her life will be held beginning at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 11, 2026 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley Heard Funeral Directors in Fernandina Beach, FL. The family will receive friends for the hour prior. The family welcomes all who knew and loved her to join them in honoring a woman whose life was a beautiful reflection of God's love. Forever loved. Forever cherished. Forever remembered.
