Arvel Eugene Moore, Sr.

Arvel Eugene Moore, Sr., 80, of Fernandina Beach passed away Friday, May 1, 2020 at Fernandina Beach Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Born in Fernandina Beach, Mr. Moore was the son of the late Arvel and Roselle Howard Moore.

He graduated from Fernandina Beach High School and retired from Rayonier after a long career as a millwright. Mr. Moore was a member of 5 Points Baptist Church.

A longtime camping and hiking enthusiast, Mr. Moore took his family camping from the time his children were small. Along with camping he also enjoyed hiking. He was a member of the Florida Trail Association and spent time on the Florida Trail as well as other going on other hiking adventures. Along with his time in the outdoors, Mr. Moore became quite the self educated botanist. He studied books on varied topics and would take from the written word out into the field and apply it.

Mr. Moore lived most of his life in Nassau County. After the passing of his wife, Eugenia, in 2002 he moved to Stockbridge, GA where he lived until his return to Fernandina Beach in 2011. While there he participated with the Boy Scouts in camping and hiking activities and conducted tours and training with the scouts at Panola Mountain State Park.

In addition to his parents and his wife Eugenia, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Barbara Bailey Moore; his sister, Rosene Quintana; sister-in-law, Arene Cobb; brother-in-law, Clinton Shelton and his wife Faye.

He leaves behind his children, Butch (Theresa)Moore and Denise (Keith) Nelsen, all of Fernandina Beach; his brother, Don (Teresa) Moore of Fernandina Beach; Barbara�s children, Joey Smith and Ann (Eddie) Hill, all of Stockbridge, GA; sister-in-law, Barbara (Jim) Arman; his grandchildren, Michael Moore, Ryan Stephens, Brandy Harvey, Olivia Taylor, Dale (Mandee) Taylor, Jessie Hill, Tony Hill and Cody Hill as well as nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Moore will be laid to rest beside his wife, Eugenia, at Bosque Bello Cemetery in a family graveside service.
