Barbara Jean Ahl

Barbara Jean Ahl, age 77 of Fernandina Beach, FL passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 30, 2021 due to complications from Chemotherapy treatments. She was at home with her husband Gene by her side.

Born on October 27, 1943 to (the late) James F. and Evelyn M. (Smith) Hull, Barbara grew up in the village of Cherry Valley, NY and graduated from Cherry Valley High School. After graduating from Brockport State University with a degree in Physical Education, she married Gene Patrick Ahl in 1966.

After graduation Barbara began working in the Hilton School District (Hilton, NY) as a Physical Education Teacher. She taught for 3 years, and then transitioned to being a stay at home mother of two daughters - Elizabeth and Susan.

She returned to work as an Office Administrator at RIT (The Rochester Institute of Technology).

In 1995, when Gene retired from Eastman Kodak Company, they moved to Fernandina Beach, FL where they have lived for the past 26 years. Barbara had many close friendships with her colleagues.

She was an avid reader and animal lover. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Barbara leaves behind her husband of 55 years, Gene P. Ahl; two daughters, Elizabeth Brummel (San Francisco, CA) and Susan Albow (New York City, NY); three sisters, Carol Bressett (Cherry Valley, NY), Gloria Storms (Carthage, NY), and Linda Roof (Mohawk, NY); two grandsons, Emmett Brummel and Shai Albow, and numerous relatives throughout greater upstate New York.

Private services will be held on Monday October 4, 2021 at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home in Fernandina Beach, FL.
