Bette Warner Smith

Bette Warner Smith, 96, passed away March 25, 2020 in the caring comfort of The Warner Center Community Hospice.

She was born in Port Jervis, NY on October 8, 1923 and resided most of her life in Matamoras, PA where she loved her family, her friends and serving her community. She graduated from Matamoras High School in 1941 and attended Susquehanna University. She left college to join the US Navy (WAVES) during World War II and served as a Yeoman First Class at Boston Navy Yard during the war. Her love of and her service to her country filled her with lifelong pride. She served as Borough of Matamoras secretary for 30 years and was also employed by Pike County Soil Conservation. She was active in many community and civic organizations. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Port Jervis, NY.

Bette was preceded in death by her husband Francis J. Smith.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Susan Ryder and Dante DeFlorio and Kerry and Bobby Woods all of Fernandina Beach, and her son and daughter-in-law Warner F. and Sue Smith of Elizabethtown, PA.

Her ashes will be interred in Matamoras, PA next to her husband and her parents.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

A special thank you to the caring staff of The Jane Adams House and Community Hospice. It was Bette�s wish that donations be made to any helping organizations.

You were by her side to the end and when we visited we saw how much Aunt Bette appreciated that. Our condolences to all and hold your memories of all the good times. She is at peace now after a long and fulfilling life.
