Betty Jean Lloyd

2021-11-29

Betty Lloyd, 79, of Yulee, Florida passed away on Monday, November 29 at Baptist Medical Center Nassau.

Betty was born January 12, 1942, in Fernandina Beach, Florida to the late Mose Lucien and Betty Viola Graham.

She married Layton Donald Lloyd on August 7, 1965, and they were married one week short of 42 years at the time of his death. Betty did not remarry.

Family members include; 4 children Molly m. Thomas Corbitt, Jo Ann m. Steven Mooney, Layton Daniel “Danny”, and Michael Scott “Scottie”; 9 grandchildren Shannon m. Matt Nordmann, Lil m. Steven Whitman, Jakob, Morgan, Austin, Alayah, Arabella, Kayleigh, and Renesmee; 9 great grandchildren Draven m. Matt Slack, Rosalie, Emma, Aaron, Zeno, Austin, Carly, Harper, and Taylor; 2 great great grandchildren Michaela and Tyler. She was most proud of having 5 generations and all 20 of those grandchildren.

Betty was predeceased by her siblings, brothers Calvin and Curtis, sisters Doris, Anice, and Linda, and her honorary sister Vermell.

There are too many nieces and nephews to name but know that each and everyone was loved and dear to her heart. In addition, there are many friends who loved Betty and she considered them family.

During her life, Betty lived in Key West, Florida, Freeport, Texas, Nigeria, Africa, Rio Hato, Panama in Central America, and finally settled back in Nassau County where she always considered home. The adventures continued as she loved to go on cruises including all over the Caribbean and Alaska.

A few things she loved to do was go to her home in Hazlehurst, Georgia “the farm” and spend time with friends and family there and fish in the ponds surrounding the house. Another passion was cooking for the ones she loved. There was never a weekend that people didn’t gather at her table for a great meal. Toward the end of her life she delighted in visiting family, studying her faith, and shopping (another adventure in itself).

Betty will be laid to rest next to her beloved Layton in Pineview Cemetery in Folkston, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held Friday at the chapel at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home in Fernandina Beach at 12:00 followed by a graveside service in Folkston at 3:00.
