My thoughts and prayers are with you all. It was always pleasure running into Mr. Billy at the store for he had a way to slow time down and take you on a stroll down memory lane. I loved to hear the stories of his family, the adventures of his job, or life in general. God gives us Blessings everyday and Mr. Billy was one for me; for he would always make me smile or at least give me a chuckle for hours. His journey here has ended and he has now reached his final destination to begin new journeys to share. Again, thoughts and prayers are with you and may God Bless and keep you.

The Newsome family sends our loving thoughts and prayers to all of the family. We spent so much of our years knowing all of you and treasure our memories of Mr. Roland. He was a such a presence in our community and lives. He was a true gentleman, loved his family and loved his community. This can be seen in the family he raised. I know he is happy to be with Mrs. June and he forever will be in our hearts. God bless.
Billy C. Roland
2021-08-20
Mr. Billy C. Roland, 89, of Fernandina Beach passed away Friday, August 20, 2021 at Baptist Medical Center, Nassau.
He was born in Eastman, Dodge County, Georgia. Mr. Roland was a son of the late Freeman Roland and Mattie Thelma Giddens Roland.
He moved to Nassau County in early 1958 and made his home here. He went to work for Standard Marine Supply. On his first day there he never suspected that he would work there for almost 50 years.
Mr. Roland was a detailed oriented person who will always be remembered for his hard work and the ethics that made him always want to do a good job. He never lost touch with his Eastman farming roots. Every year he would always grow tomato plants and other vegetables. He became an avid “home gardener.”
He left an indelible mark on the community and youth of Fernandina Beach because of his involvement with Little League Baseball. He coached many players who will remember him because of the way he approached coaching. Teaching youngsters can be a hard task, but he applied the same ethics on the field that he did in the rest of his life. In addition to coaching, he spent many years as president of the Little League Association.
His caring was never more apparent than with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved his family with all of his heart. Those grandchildren and great grandchildren were the “apple of his eye” and his love for them will be remembered forever.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, June Roland, in 2010; his brothers and sisters, Mary Stuckey, Rachel Coleman, Virginia Fordham, Charles Roland, Jack Roland, Jim Roland and Stan Roland.
He leaves behind his three children, Ken and Debi Roland, Greg and Debbi Roland and Mickey and Deanette Roland, all of Fernandina Beach; his sister and brother, Carolyn Martin and Steve Roland, both of Eastman, GA; his grandchildren, Kyle Roland, Kenan Kucera and Bailee Jones; his great grandchildren, Natalie, Grayson and Charlie as well a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for Mr. Roland will be held Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 12:00 PM in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 AM.
He will be laid to rest at Bosque Bello Cemetery next to his beloved wife.
The family asks that all who attend be mindful of safe practices regarding COVID 19. Those attending are asked to wear masks and be mindful of social distancing.
