Captain Edward George Redden, US Navy Retired

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Captain Edward George Redden, United States Navy (Ret.), 87, of Amelia Island passed away on May 15th in Fernandina Beach.

He was born on July 8, 1937 in Waterbury, CT to the late Edward Raymond Redden and Marjorie Deconnick. After graduating from Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury in 1955, Ed entered the United States Naval Academy. Upon graduation in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree and a commission as an Ensign in the United States Navy, Ed married Anne Denise Conron, of Newport, RI, and commenced Navy flight training.

After earning the coveted “wings of gold” as a naval aviator, he went on to complete a distinguished 30-year Navy career. Highlights from his naval service include combat missions flown in Southeast Asia, award of the Purple Heart medal, receipt of a Master’s degree in Management from the Naval Postgraduate School, and command of a jet training squadron. Upon retirement from the Navy, Ed worked six years as a financial planner for United States Planning Association, Inc. After his final retirement in 1995, Ed settled in Amelia Island to pursue his remaining passions; golf, tennis, long runs on the beach, and spending time with his family.

He was an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Amelia Island.

In addition to his parents, Ed is predeceased by his sister, Carolyn Cistulli.

He leaves behind his wife Anne, of 65 years; son, Mark and his wife Mary Ann of Ormond Beach, FL; daughter, Lesley and her husband John of Lake Worth, FL; daughter, Katie and her husband John of Fernandina Beach, FL; son, Michael and his wife Kore of Mesa, AZ; as well as nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Fernandina Beach, FL at 12:00 PM on Thursday, May 22nd. He will be laid to rest at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
