Captain Richard J. Clements, U. S. Coast Guard (Ret).

2026-09-15

Captain Richard J. Clements, U. S. Coast Guard (Ret)., 90, of Fernandina Beach
passed on to eternity Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

Captain Clements was born in Atlanta, GA and was a son of the late John E. and
Katherine Loyd Clements. After college he attended the U. S. Coast Guard Academy.
His career spanned over 20 years and he retired at the rank of Captain. He dearly loved
the Coast Guard and his time of service there.

After retirement from the Coast Guard, he worked as the Director of the Port Authority of
South Louisiana. He moved to Fernandina Beach in 1997. Captain Clements enjoyed
fishing and was an avid reader. He dearly loved his family and while private with his
faith, he was a faithful believer in Christ. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense
of humor. That sense of humor spanned his entire life even though he faced several
health challenges in his latter years.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his former wife, Georgiana Keyes
Clements, a son, Jack Clements and his siblings, Donald, John Ed, Carolyn, Robert and
Jimmy.

He leaves behind his wife of 26 years, Mary Kay Clements of Fernandina Beach; his
children, Katie Alpert of New Orleans, LA, Kelly (Rickey) Brewer of Jacksonville, FL and
Jeff (Deanna) McCarty of Jackson, OH; a sister, Mary Keller of Tallahassee;
grandchildren: Jonah Alpert, Amos Alpert, Joshua (Allie) McCarty, Jessica (John) Buck
and Uriah (Kali) Brewer; seven great grandchildren, as well as several dearly loved
nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Accent Home Health Care Givers and the “Visiting
Angels” for the unwavering support and care.

Captain Clements will be laid to rest at Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date.
