Carol McAllister

2016-03-29

Carol D. McAllister, 85, passed away peacefully on the morning of February 28, 2016 in Amelia Island, Florida. Born in Philadelphia, PA on December 30, 1930, Carol was the beloved wife of William A. McAllister Jr, and mother of Jill, Peggy and Alec, grandmother of eight, and great-grandmother of three.

Valedictorian of her high school class, Carol was a translator for a medical publishing company before marrying Bill and devoting much of her time to raising a family. She studied at the Philadelphia Academy of Music, performed as soloist, organist and choir director for various churches throughout her life. Since the 1970s, she served as a volunteer to work with the dying (a real calling for her) through hospice in three states, and started a service in the Virginia mountains called Night Light, which offered volunteers to sit with dying patients in their final hours, so that no one needed to die alone.

Carol brought love and peace into each interaction, and will be dearly missed by the many lives she touched.

Funeral services will be held at the Amelia Plantation Chapel at 3:30 pm on Thursday March 3, 2016.

Flowers are welcome, as are donations to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
