Carole M. Langan

2024-09-11

Carole M. Langan, age 79, of Amelia Island and Martha’s Vineyard, MA, died on September 11, 2024 in Fernandina Beach, FL. Ms. Langan was the daughter of the late Hon. James M. Langan and Eleanor F. (Crofwell) Langan. She was born in Boston and grew up in Jamaica Plain, MA.

Following her graduation from Notre Dame Academy in Roxbury, MA (now in Hingham), Carole received a B.A. degree in Art History from Newton College of the Sacred Heart (which later merged into Boston College). Upon completion of training in Washington, D.C., she obtained certification in the Montessori educational method. Carole taught kindergarten in Norwell, MA and at the Elliot-Pearson Children’s School in Medford, MA. From Tufts University, she earned a Master’s degree in Education.

In the 1970s, Carole lived for four years in Ireland, which elevated her regard for her Irish heritage. Carole later worked at the Boston Document Exchange and as a commodities trader while living in Hawaii. Carole held a Mass. real estate brokers license. She had also extensively traveled around much of Europe.

Although in her earlier years she was a skier and an ice skater, Carole developed a strong aversion to cold weather; and so, she resided in various locales throughout the Caribbean islands and Florida. Carole was a lover of the seashore, especially Cape Cod and the Islands. Since 2008, she was a seasonal resident of Martha’s Vineyard, and had volunteered at the annual Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival. When asked, Carole never refused a good glass of wine.

She is survived by her sisters Jane Allan of Bainbridge Island, WA and Nora (Nancy) Langan of Seattle, her brother James Langan, Jr. of Boston, and her dear friend Dana McCoy of Fernandina Beach, FL.

Donations in Carole’s memory can be made to Boston College, and designate the Irish Studies program: Boston College, Office of University Advancement, 140 Comm. Ave., Chestnut Hill MA 02467, or at www.bc.edu/give.
