I knew this lady for many years from her volunteering at the hospital. She was a sweet woman and will be missed. Mr John was a good man also. I had the privilege of caring for him before he passed.

Aunt Carolyn is remembered with love and joy. She lived life with purpose even as her eyesight failed and glorified God in all she did. She also made the best macaroni and cheese in the South. Finally reunited with her husband John Lewis, daughter Lori, sister Becky, brother Jimmy, parents, and all those who went before, Aunt Carolyn joins the heavenly saints watching over us, spending eternity with Jesus Christ, our Lord. Her legacy of love, helping spirit, and "gift of gab" live on in all who knew her.

Carolyn Knight West went to be with her Lord on Saturday, September 5, 2026. Born May 11, 1939, in Raleigh NC to Ralph and Mildred Knight. She graduated from Needham Broughton High School in Raleigh and attended Meredith College & Hardbarger Business School. In June 1959, she married the love of her life, John West, whom she met on a blind date while in high school. The union lasted 54 years until John’s death in August 2013. John and Carolyn had two children, David, of Fernandina Beach, and Lori Bass, deceased in 2006.
John and Carolyn made homes in Charleston, Florence, and North Augusta, SC, Coshocton, Ohio and Show Low, Arizona before moving to Fernandina in 1993.
Carolyn was an active member of N Augusta Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for over ten years. She was treasurer of White Mountain Methodist Church in Show Low. She and John joined Memorial United Methodist Church after moving to Fernandina. She was an active member of United Methodist Women, Yokefellows Sunday School class, an office helper as a “stuffer” for fifteen years, and at the age of 82, took on the challenge of becoming a member of the bell ringers. As a member of the Auxiliary at Baptist Hospital of Nassau, she was on the Auxiliary Board, serving as secretary for two terms. She worked as a volunteer for over 26 years.
She loved God, her family, and her country and looked forward to rejoining her loved ones in her heavenly home. She leaves to mourn her death her son David (Cathy) of Fernandina, her grandchildren Lindsay Burns (Judson) of Chillicothe, Ohio, Jessica Harris (Ben) of Canal Winchester, Ohio, Kelsey Langer (Zac) of Birmingham, Alabama, and Taylor Blake (Andrew) of Montgomery, Alabama. Also, seven great grandchildren, Jonah and Lilah Burns, Chloe and Maggie Harris, Logan and Lewis Langer, and Francie Blake, brother-in-law Reed Anderson of Axton, Virginia, and several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, daughter, parents, sister, and brother. She was one of the best moms, mom-moms, friend, and helper God ever put on this earth and will be missed by many until we see her again.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 12, 2026, 2pm, with services at 3pm, at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home, 1305 Atlantic Avenue in Fernandina.
