Cecil Lamar Brewer, Jr.

Mr. Cecil Lamar Brewer, Jr., 66, of Fernandina Beach passed away Monday, February 1, 2021.

Mr. Brewer was born in Waycross, GA and was a son of the late Cecil L. and Peggy Cox Brewer. He was raised in Swainsboro, GA and was a graduate of Swainsboro High School and later, East Georgia College in Swainsboro.

He was a longtime officer with the Florida Marine Patrol. He originally came to the area from Key West in 1984. Shortly after his posting in Jacksonville he moved his young family to Fernandina Beach in 1986.

Mr. Brewer retired from the Marine Patrol in the early 1990’s and worked for several years with the Florida Park Service until his last retirement.

In his youth he was an avid runner, swimmer and enjoyed diving whenever he could. Always an outdoorsman, he loved camping, shooting and fishing, especially flounder gigging. Mr. Brewer was a noted story teller who enjoyed regaling his friends and family of his many adventures and experiences.

He had become the Patriarch of his family and was the loving father of his three children, Melani Brewer (Jay) Akins of Lexington, SC, Brandon “Bo” Brewer and Jody Ferrell Brewer, both of Fernandina Beach; his grandchildren, Cole (Sarah) Meeks, Clay (Shayne) Akins, Marshall (Samantha) Meeks, Sydnie Meeks and Morgan Meeks; his great grandchildren, Brantley, Harper, Jaxon, and James as well his brother, John Benjamin Brewer of Swainsboro, GA.

A memorial service to remember and celebrate his life will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, February 19, 2021 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors.
