Christopher Colby Gamble, Sr.

2021-09-09

Mr. Christopher Colby Gamble, Sr., 68, of Fernandina Beach passed away at his home on Thursday, September 9, 2021.

He was born in Boston, MA and was a son of the late John Robert Gamble and Dorothy Sutherland. He was raised in Quincy, MA and Litchfield, NH.

He moved with his family to Fernandina Beach in 1988. Mr. Gamble worked for most of his life as an Over the Road Truck Driver. He drove long distance runs up and down the east coast for 48 years. He then transitioned to Lowes in Fernandina Beach, to allow more time with family. He eventually retired from Lowe’s where many will remember him as a “plumbing pro” and “delivery driver”.

He was such an outgoing and caring man! He especially enjoyed being able to talk about anything with anyone at any time. He never seemed to meet a stranger and was loved by everyone who knew him. An adventurous fellow, he was always willing to try anything. As he began a project he would say, “let’s take a shot, what’s the worst thing that can happen?”

Mr. Gamble loved boating, camping, and just simply sitting on the front porch. He genuinely loved being outdoors and could often be found with his favorite “adult beverage”. While he was the holder of many strong opinions, his outlook was shaped by his concern for the world in which his family would live. He could not have been more proud of the adults his children became. He so dearly loved his grandchildren and wanted them to see that there are no limits to anything they want to do when they put their minds to it.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Leslie Martinez and his brother, John Robert Gamble.

He leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Linda Gamble; his children, Chris (Cyndi) Gamble, Jr. and Jennifer (Russ) Panke, both of Fernandina Beach; his siblings, Don (Ruth) Gamble of Quincy, MA, Lois (Ron) Bradley of Wilmington, MA, Cathy (John) Snyder of Litchfield, NH and Terry Leduc of Londonderry, NH ; his brother in law, Ron (Margaret) McKown; his grandchildren, Kendall Marie Panke, Christopher Colby Gamble, III “Big Colby” and Colby Bennett Panke as well as several loving Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews.

We will be welcoming everyone to join us in a casual gathering in sharing your cherished memories of Big Chris on Saturday September 18th from 5 pm to 9pm at Chem Cell Club located at 2951 Chem Cell Road, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034.
