Dr. Clyde A. Holsclaw, age 92, died nobly at his home on Amelia Island, FL July 30, 2017. He enjoyed great comfort in life and death by belonging body and soul to his faithful Savior, Jesus Christ.

Clyde was born in Elk Park, NC on Oct. 3, 1924 to Clyde and Fannie Holsclaw, Sr. His family moved to Erwin, TN in 1926 which became his cherished home. Clyde always loved his boyhood friends and his country too, serving in the Pacific aboard the USS Hornet 1943-1946. Devoted to shipmates, he presided over many Hornet reunions. The final bugler for a WWII veteran Hornet sailor will echo Taps over Clyde and Lucy�s gravesite.

With a PhD in higher Education from the Univ. of Tenn., his career spanned 37 years in NC and GA as history teacher, football coach, high school principal, always a builder of character, and eventually Area Superintendent of Schools, for Dekalb County, GA.

Clyde and his beloved wife, Lucy, retired to Amelia Island, FL and for a quarter century they labored alongside, loved fervently and taught faithfully with fellow members of Amelia Baptist Church. Members that have shown their abundance of love to Clyde and Lucy until the end.

Clyde was preceded in death by his brother, Darrell, his first wife and mother of his sons, Ethel Holden Holsclaw, who died when they were young, and by his wife of 51 years, Lucille Black Holsclaw. He is survived by his three sons, Michael, Scott and Mark, and two stepdaughters, Leslie Miseyko and Jan Chapman, eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Clyde will be honored for how he dignified others and constantly trusted and lived for Christ. Clyde�s repertoire of Southern wit and courteous words for all he met will be missed and quoted for generations to come!

The family would like to express their immense gratitude to his devoted caregivers Cindy Spearman, Peggy White, Lynn Peterson, and Melisa Henry, as well as, our dear friends from Community Hospice.

There will be a celebration of life service at 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at Amelia Baptist Church with the Rev. Neil Helton officiating.

His family will receive friends following the service at a reception at the church.

Dr. Holsclaw will be laid to rest with his wife in Jacksonville National Cemetery.
