Collin Patrick Helms
2020-06-01
Collin Patrick Helms, age 17, went to join Our Lord Friday, May 29, 2020 at 1:33 AM. He was in the company of his mother, father, and little brother when he passed. He sustained a traumatic brain injury while skateboarding with friends on the evening of March 26th.
Collin was born and raised here in Fernandina Beach. He loved everyone and was simply an amazing young man. He was kind, loving, smart, funny, a great friend, and always fun to be around. He was a perfect big brother and a fantastic son and grandson. Collins smile was contagious and always lit up the room. He was a wonderful teammate that always gave his all, no matter what. He enjoyed reading, guitar, baseball, basketball, and football, and playing video games with his little brother, and Friday night sleepovers with his best friends. Collin was an organ donor, we are so proud that he was able to help others, he is a hero for that.
Collin fought in the hospital for 8 long weeks, but eventually came home to be surrounded by family and friends for his last week with us. We smiled, cried, and laughed during this precious time we had with him. We heard lots of fun stories about Collin and every story ended with, Collin was my best friend.
Collin had just completed his Junior year at Fernandina Beach High School. He loved his jobs at Hola Cuban Caf and KPs.
He is survived by his parents, Joey and Sabrina Helms, and little brother Liam, grandparents Wayne and Kay McInturff of Yulee, and numerous other family members all around Florida, Georgia, and Alabama.
We will have a celebration of life for Collin at a later date once the Covid-19 restrictions ease up.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Collins name to Community Hospice Pediatric Care or to the Fernandina Beach Dugout Club.
