Shelley Clifford Searcy

I feel so blessed to have known Dale. As I began my adult life, Dale encouraged and inspired me. We loved to talk Ole Miss football and golf! He was always positive and smiling. I know he brought so much joy to Shiree and her family. I am grateful to have known such a wonderful man.

Dale Hattox Bullen

Dale Hattox Bullen, 83, of Fernandina Beach, FL passed Monday, September 19, 2022 at his home.

Born in Fayette, MS he was son of the late Eugene Samuel Bullen, Jr. and Kathleen Hattox Bullen. He was graduated from the University of Mississippi with a B.B.A. in accounting in 1961. He remained an avid supporter of “Ole Miss” for the remainder of his life.

In 1961 he joined the accounting firm KPMG in Memphis, TN. His career would span 30 years with KPMG. He eventually became a managing partner. He made his home in Memphis until moving to Fernandina Beach in 2004.

He was active in several civic groups and charities including: The Easter Seal Society of Tennessee, where he served as President; The Boy’s Club of Memphis; Memphis Museums; The Board of Voluntine Boys Club; The Memphis Oral School for the Deaf; the Les Passes Rehabilitation Center; The Rotary Club of Memphis-East and the Commerce Club.

After moving to Fernandina Beach, he became an avid golfer and was a member of the Golf Club of Amelia Island. In addition to golf, he loved college football, most especially his alma mater, “Ole Miss”. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Fernandina Beach.

Mr. Bullen will be remembered as a devoted and loving father and grandfather who cherished all of his family and friends.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his first and second wife, Ann Carlton Bullen and Mary Alice “Sandy” Bullen, a brother, Eugene Samuel Bullen, III, a daughter-in-law, Theresa Dennis Bullen and a sister-in-law, Cecelia Bullen.

Mr. Bullen leaves behind his wife, Shiree Charles Bullen of Fernandina Beach, FL; a daughter, Ann Michelle “Chelle” Bullen DePriest and her husband, Bobby of Fernandina Beach; two sons, Dale Benjamin Bullen and his wife, Karissa of Abingdon, VA and Daryll Burton Bullen of Gainesville, FL; a brother, Glenn W. Bullen of Birmingham, AL; Shiree’s children, Kelli Charles (Shea) Ross of Gainesville, FL, Kerri Charles of Frederick, CO, Marci Charles (Anna) of Austin; 16 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and a large extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bullen be taken to Laird Funeral Home in Natchez, MS. He will be laid to rest in Pine Ridge Cemetery after a service at Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church Natchez on Saturday, October 1, 2022.

The family is planning a Celebration of Life for Mr. Bullen in Fernandina Beach, FL at a later date.

Rather than flowers, the family asks donations be made, in his memory, to the Rotary Club of Memphis-East, C/O Lee M. Hughes, 504 W. Sanga Cir., Cordova, TN 38018 for “The Dale Project” or to the Memphis Oral School for the Deaf, 7901 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38138.
