Dana Michelle �Mama� Payne, 57 of Fernandina Beach passed away Friday May 10, 2019 at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville.

Born in Charlotte, NC she was the daughter of the late George and Wanda Hawkins Payne.

Michelle moved to Fernandina Beach in 1990 and worked as a waitperson and bartender in area establishments. At the time of her passing she had been with Four Seasons Bistro for some time. She was dearly loved by co-workers and customers alike.

Known as a kind of lady who would give you the shirt of her back, she will be remembered as a feisty lady who, in the southern way of saying things, was �quite a pistol�. Known for her straight forward advice, after giving you the shirt off her back, she would dispense some of her �tough love� and tell you what she thought you needed to do to straighten things out.

She leaves behind her son, Heath Payne of Fernandina Beach, a grandson, Kaden Payne of Yulee; her former husband, Richard A. Cate, Jr of Fernandina Beach as well as several nieces and nephews and her extended family of co-workers at Four Seasons.

Services to celebrate and remember her life will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 7:00 PM the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors with Chaplain Jackie Hayes officiating.

The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00 pm at the funeral home.

She will be laid to rest at a later date at a small family gathering.
