Mr. Daniel P. �Danny� Rubio, age 38, formerly of Fernandina Beach passed away at his Orlando home on Friday, May 19, 2017.

Danny did what he loved. He loved cats, so he fathered three of them. He loved pickup trucks, so he picked out a blue Dodge Ram. He loved roller coasters, so he settled down in the theme park capital of the world.

Daniel Pablo Rubio was born on June 28, 1978 in South Miami, the second son of Pedro and Gloria Rubio. Danny the jokester squabbled with his calculated older brother, Pedro Jr. But when his older brother left for college, Danny often ran up the long-distance phone bill because he missed him.

Danny�s first friends had four furry legs. He would treat Toti, a black lab mix, to a luxurious bath and pamper her with baby powder, just like his mother had with him. He professed that someday he would be a �doctor de dog� � bilingual Danny speak for veterinarian.

Of all his cats, black and white Snuggie would curl around his neck while Danny milled around the house. Without Snuggie as a collar, Danny showed off his handstands.

Danny relished in visits to Busch Gardens and Disney World, finding as much thrill in the tram and bus rides to the park as the attractions.

Realizing that he was better suited as a pet owner than a vet, Danny pursued another passion and graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in hospitality management. He coordinated special events for Disney and Universal Studios and later often traveled for a job with a trade show company. He worked for Orange County since 2013.

When around family, he often watched over younger cousins and, eventually, five nieces and nephews, earning the nickname �Danny the Nanny.�
�Danny was a loving, caring individual who cared about his family and his fellow man,� said his father, Pedro Sr. �He was a lover of animals and of life.�

Danny is survived by his mother, father, brother, sister-in-law Eyan Rubio and five nieces and nephews: Layla, Domingo, Naomi, Pascal and Sebastian Rubio as well as his grandmothers, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 25, 2017 at St. Michael�s Catholic Church, 505 Broome St in Fernandina Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Nassau Humane Society.
