2024-12-17
David Vansant, 80, of Fernandina Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, at the Warner Center Community Hospice.
Born on June 23, 1944, in Wilmington, Delaware, to the late William Francis Vansant and Florence Kershaw, “Dave” spent his early years in August, Georgia. He graduated from Richmond Academy High School in 1962 before earning a BBA in Finance from the University of Georgia.
After college, Dave moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he embarked on a career in finance, initially working as a Commercial Lender for C&S Bank. Over the years, he served as President and CEO of numerous businesses, leaving a legacy of leadership and dedication. In addition to his professional pursuits, he served his country proudly as a member of the United States Marine Corps.
A devoted fan of the University of Georgia Bulldogs, Dave’s love for football was rivaled only by his annual anticipation of The Masters Tournament in Augusta, which always held a special place in his heart.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Shirley Coleman Vansant of Macon, Georgia; his two children, Jennifer Vansant Smith and Donovan Vansant, along with Donovan’s wife, Elizabeth Mayo Vansant, all residing in Atlanta, Georgia. He also leaves behind his sister, Gail Vansant Derdarian, and her husband, Robert Derdarian, of Boston, Massachusetts; a stepson, Andrew Head, of Atlanta; nine cherished grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private celebration of Dave’s life will be held at the residence of Shirley Vansant in January 2025.
Rather than flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dave’s memory to the Warner Center Community Hospice in Fernandina Beach, Florida.
