Diane Monti

2024-12-31

Diane Monti passed peacefully from this life on December 31, 2024. Her life was an exemplary showcase of love of family and friends. Diane will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Diane was born in 1943 in Milton, Massachusetts to Joseph and Violet Iannucci. In 1949 she and her family moved to Rhode Island where she attended public schools and then Classical High School in Providence. She went on to study Biology at the University of Rhode Island. In 1965, Diane married her high school sweetheart, Bob Monti. The two raced sailboats all over the northeast on their International 110. They were known to be so passionate about their sailing that they ate the cheapest cuts of meat just to afford new sails.

In the early 1970’s, Diane and Bob welcomed their two children, Robert and Jill. They moved to Ohio and upgraded to a Northstar 600 and then to a C&C 30 which they sailed for many years on Lake Erie. Diane also lived in Tampa, FL and Norcross, GA, often working as an innovative middle school science teacher. In 2012, Diane and Bob settled full time in Fernandina Beach.

It could be said of Diane that in her life, she never met a stranger. She loved her family and friends fiercely. She could often be found delivering homemade tortellini soup or pickled peppers to neighbors or writing sweet notes of encouragement to friends. Without doubt, her greatest source of joy were her grandchildren, Ari and Francesca. She cherished doing almost anything with them, even eating some “not especially delicious” cake.

Diane has been a long time member of the Newcomer’s Group and of the Women’s Guild of St. . Michael’s.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her husband, Bob, with whom she would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this July. Diane had a fun, beautiful presence whose void here will never be filled.

A funeral mass will be held for her at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Friday, January 17 at 11:00 am.
