Dixie Lee Roberts

2024-08-06

The world lost a beloved mother, wife, and grandmother, Dixie Lee Roberts, on August 6, 2024. Dixie battled with Parkinson’s for the last several years of her life but it never stopped her from loving all around her with warmth, kindness and much grace.

She died peacefully just 5 days short of her 90th birthday after 2 weeks on hospice care in Fernandina Beach, Florida. We will be forever grateful for the compassionate caregivers at Lakeside Assisted Living and the amazing team at Community Hospice that were like angels in her final days.

She was a joyful and faithful follower of Jesus and was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist church.

She is preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, James D. Roberts and her first-born daughter, Linda Oster.

Dixie and Jim met in college in Takoma Park, Maryland, married and began a 55 -year lifetime of adventures, travels, job moves and grew their family to 5. Together, they shared a life of service working in the Seventh-day Adventist education and health care systems both in the United States and other countries of the world.

Dixie loved cruises, reading, spending time at the beach (her happy place), the mountains, cross country skiing, scuba diving and being with family. Friendships were precious to her and even as she declined in health, she used her IPad and iPhone to keep in touch with her dear friends.

She was a fabulous cook and love to entertain family, friends and strangers. All were welcome at her table and into her meticulous home.

She is survived by her devoted daughters, Sandra Roberts of Corona, CA and Patti Roberts (Rusty Buchanan) of Fernandina Beach, FL.

She had 2 grandchildren, Nathan Oster (Dominique) and Jillian Oster, and one precious great granddaughter, Averie, all from Santa Cruz, CA, as well as 2 sisters, Charlotte Albertson of Daytona Beach, FL and Lois Gallegos of Ringgold, GA and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside family service will be held in Camino, CA at a future date where Dixie will be laid to rest next to her husband Jim.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial contributions to be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. Gifts can be mailed by mailing a check to: 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.

“He will dwell with them and they shall be his people and God himself will be with them; he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21: 1 - 4
