Mrs. Doreen Joanne Nelson Johnson, age 88, of Amelia Island, FL passed away Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Osprey Village.

She was born in Rockford, Illinois to the late Victor Bernard and Hazel Marie Nelson, Jr. After graduating from East Rockford High School, she continued her education at the University of Wisconsin and Rockford College where she received a Bachelor�s Degree in Sociology and a Master�s Degree in Education, Counseling and Guidance from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida.

In 1966 she married Bernard C. Johnson, a marriage that would last for 42 years. Mrs. Johnson worked as an Adoption Investigator and as a Counselor of Employment Services for the State of Florida. Her retirement years were spent in Lake Wales, Florida where she bred litters of Vizsla dogs and loved helping people and animals. Mrs. Johnson relocated to Amelia Island, Florida in 2011 to be near family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Johnson who passed away in 2008 and sister, Janeen Nelson Wrede.

She leaves behind her children, Scott Johnson and his wife Patricia of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Sally Futch and her husband William of Green Cove Springs, Florida; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She will be laid to rest with to her husband in Jacksonville National Cemetery.
