Harding High School in Warren, Ohio. After graduating, she worked as a receptionist for Warren City Manufacturing Co and later in the printing department. After leaving Warren City Manufacturing Co., she worked as a telephone operator for United Telephone Company in Warren, Ohio.
She became a full-time homemaker after her marriage to Frank Persin on July 27, 1946. They were married for over fifty-two years. She was a loving wife, devoted mother of two children, and caring grandmother of four grandchildren. She dedicated her life to home and family, which brought her much joy and contentment. In her spare time, Dorothy enjoyed playing golf and card games with her friends. She also liked to crochet, read, and do crossword puzzles.
Dorothy and her husband enjoyed some traveling to visit their daughter and family when they lived in South Carolina, Scotland, and Florida. They also had a memorable trip to England and Ireland. They attended several trips to her husband’s Army-Air Corp reunions and trips to Washington, DC, where her brother lived. She also enjoyed going on cruises with her daughter.
Dorothy lived with her husband and children in Warren, Ohio for over twenty-two years. She and Frank moved to Vienna, Ohio in 1969 and lived there for thirty years until her husband’s death in 1999. She spent her elder years on Amelia Island, FL living with her daughter, Susan and son-in-law, Steve.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. David and Anna Gertrude Jones, stepmother, Claudia Bauman Jones; brother, Lt. Colonel Leo Leslie Jones; husband, Frank Persin; son, Leslie Frank Persin; great grandson, Dominic Persin; and step-grandson, Michael Robert Shearer.
She will be missed by her daughter, Susan Shearer (Steve) of Fernandina Beach, FL; grandsons, Kevin Shearer of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Timothy (Kelly) Persin of Boardman, Ohio; Brian Persin of Newton Falls, Ohio; granddaughter, Shery Persin (Tony) Torres of Warren, Ohio; step-grandson, Jeff Shearer of Stuart, Florida; step-great grandson, Ian Shearer; step-great grandson, Aidan Shearer; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her “second” daughter, Amy Walters (David) Vargo of Westerville, Ohio.
Dorothy loved God and enjoyed singing praises to Him. She requested that there be no funeral or memorial service. She wanted everyone who knew her to do something fun in her memory and to joyfully celebrate her life.
