Dr. Richard G. Peterson

Dr. Richard G. Peterson, age 77 of Amelia Island FL passed away Monday morning, February 1, 2016 at Baptist Medical Center/Nassau. Dr. Peterson was born in Duluth MN on January 10, 1939, the youngest of three children born to the late George and Melba Peterson. He attended school in Minnesota and later Shattuck Military Academy in Faribault, Minnesota on a full academic scholarship. He went on to attend Williams College in Williamstown MA where he received his Bachelors Degree in 1961 also on a full scholarship. He continued his education at the University of Wisconsin in Madison WI where he obtained his Masters and Doctorate in Chemical Research in 1965. At the age of 26, Dr. Peterson began employment at Rohm and Haas where he rose to the position of Business Group Executive for Performance Chemicals. Based out of Philadelphia PA, Dr. Peterson was assigned as Executive Vice President over the Argentina Division. He worked on projects such as wine production and Chiquita banana production. He retired in 1994 after 30 years of service. While living in Pennsylvania, Dr. Peterson was a member of St. Davids Golf Club in Wayne PA as well as Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown PA. He was also a member of the National Theater Organ Group. During the holiday season, he met a southern lady that was visiting family in Pennsylvania by the name of Carol Ann Rockefeller and they were married in 2005. They made their home on Amelia Island where he became a member of the Fernandina Beach Golf Club. Dr. Peterson was a connoisseur of fine wine and of Lutheran faith.
He leaves behind his wife of 11 years, Carol Ann Peterson of Amelia Island, his children, Elizabeth Peterson of St. Paul MN and Richard Peterson and his wife Tracy of Duluth MN. His grandchildren, Myha, Dakota, Zane and Cage Peterson and Britney and Shane Lawson.
A celebration of Life will be held at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club at a date to be determined.
If so desired, memorials may be made in Dr. Peterson�s name to the Nassau County Humane Society, 639 Airport Rd., Fernandina Beach, FL 32034.
