Dr. Theresa M. Mahoney, 58, of Amelia Island passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville.
Born in Canton, Ohio she was a daughter of Linda S. Mahoney and the late Dr. Maurice Edward Mahoney.
She received her undergraduate degree from Walsh College in North Canton and received her Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the University of Medicine, Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa. Dr. Mahoney served residencies at the Akron General Medical Center, St. Barnabas Hospital in New York City and in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. She had a private practice in Akron until she moved to the Amelia Island area some 17 years ago. Locally she was a member of the Nassau County Medical Society and served as the Medical Director of the Medical Weight Management Clinic on Amelia Island. No matter where she practiced, Dr. Mahoney’s dedication to her patients was always exemplary.
Dr. Mahoney was a devoted parishioner at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. An avid tennis player, she played tennis at the collegiate level and loved spending time on the golf course. She was a talented cook who enjoyed preparing food for herself, her family and friends. She was always devoted to her family.
She will always be remembered for her generous and giving spirit. Whether to a stranger or a neighbor she was willing to reach out with a helping hand whenever the opportunity would arise.
In addition to her father, she was also predeceased by her brother, Christopher M. Mahoney in 2019.
She leaves behind her mother, Linda S. Mahoney of Amelia Island; an aunt, Margaret Crabtree of Naples Florida, as well as two cousins, John and Richard Crabtree, both of Annapolis, Maryland.
