Dwight D. Strickland

2020-06-15

Dwight DeWayne Strickland, 73, of Yulee passed away Saturday, June 13, 2020 at the Warner Center for Caring.

Mr. Strickland was born in Alma, GA and was a son of the late Major and Dottie Waters Strickland. He was reared in Tifton, GA and later moved to St. Marys, GA in the late 1950s.

He moved to Yulee from St. Marys when he began his career with Smurfit Stone, where he worked as an Electrician and retired after 43 years service.

When not at work, he enjoyed fishing and as he said, tinkering. He would work on cars, various electronic devices, appliances and other things around the house. He believed strongly in education, often reminding younger family members, Education is something nobody can ever take away from you. At meals or family gatherings, he always said that more cheese or hot sauce would make anything better!

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Shelia Barcaro and two brothers, Linton and Major Strickland.

He leaves behind his wife of 18 years, Lilly Charlene Strickland; his daughters, Karen Smith of Jacksonville and Kelly (Jim) Swanson of Hilliard; his step children, Earl Thomas (Susan) Page of Leesburg, GA, Heather Page of Yulee and Jody (Kathy) Austin of Jacksonville; two brothers, Ray Strickland (Betty) and Alton Strickland both of Alma, Georgia.

There are no services planned at this time.
