Mrs. Eleanor Grace Barker Conway, age 90 of Yulee FL passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2019.

She was born October 4, 1928 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Vess Cola Taylor Barker and Carl Oliver Barker. Grace came to Christ at the age of 24 at Ramona Blvd Baptist Church. She worked as a human resources placement agent and many years in the dental career field. She retired three times and hated it so much she went back to work. In her last profession, Mrs. Conway was a folk hero as a crossing guard at an elementary school in Fernandina Beach and the past 3 years at Yulee Middle School, appearing in that role in The News Leader and on Action News. Her fans gifted her with a birthday banner last fall.

Cards poured out love from the community in the days leading to her passing. She was predeceased in 2008 by her husband of 62 years, Daniel Edward Conway, by her daughter Sandra Elaine Conway (2013); by several brothers and sisters including those of Mr. Conway.

She has gone ahead to prepare a way for brothers, N.S. Crawford and Charles Conway; two sons, Wayne Conway (Anne), Port Orange FL, Brian Conway, Loudon TN; daughter Margaret Flowe (John) Mandarin, FL ; seven grandchildren, John Morris, Dawn Wise (Michael), Beth Gregory, Brendan Flowe (Tien), Sean Tucker (Samantha), Robin Flowe (Anna) and Erin Flowe; nine great grandchildren, Zachary Bryan, Dalton Brown, Tanner Wise, Blaine Gregory, Chloe Tucker, Paige Gregory, Beatrice Flowe, Piper Tucker, Alexander Flowe; one great great granddaughter, Audree Bryan.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Monday, October 7, 2019 at Yulee Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Sides officiating.

Her family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home and from 11:00 am until the hour of service at the church on Monday.

Mrs. Conway will be laid to rest in Riverside Memorial Park, Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville FL alongside her husband.

Grace Conway is alive in Heaven with her Saviour! She would call me her pastor, and she would call me her son. Grace was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. She taught Gods Word in Sunday School, and lived Gods Word before all that knew her. She will be missed. I am blessed to have been her pastor and her friend over these past 10 years.

Mama Grace took me under her wings with her no-nonsense love and common sense. If she hadnt loaned me Peugeot I might never gotten my drivers license! Of course, there may be some folks who objected to that ?. I loved Mama Grace dearly and thank Margaret for graciously sharing her with me. We know you were met with a heavenly welcoming party.

SUSAN EASON October 6, 2019
Miss Gracie was a loyal Chick-fil-A fan! Those of us that knew her well, Miss Dolores, Mike and Thomas, Miss Fe and myself, will miss her terribly. She was full of like and always was on the go when she was well. She worked as a crossing guard and undoubtedly knew most of the children in Yulee. We pray for her and her passing and we loved her very much. She always greeted me with a smile. She will be missed so much.

BUBBA REYNOLDS October 6, 2019

Grace Conway is a tender and precious child of God who will be missed here; but I am sure right now she is enjoying her Lord and Savior in a way that I cannot even imagine. Here on earth we have lost a precious saint and a prayer warrior. Heaven has gained one of its faithful citizens. Ms Grace would often tell me I sang like her husband who had already gone to be with the Lord. She was so kind, so friendly, and so very loving. I will miss her smile and her hugs. Ms Grace, we will see you soon.
