Eleanor Maureen Waldron Hicks Wade

Eleanor "Maureen" Waldron Hicks Wade of Yulee, FL passed away Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach, FL.
Mrs. Wade was born in Folkston, GA, on March 13, 1939, and was the daughter of the late Elias Dewey Waldron and Ethel Charity Higginbotham Waldron.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her son Herbert Hicks, Jr., grandchildren David Hicks, Jr., and Nicole "Nikki" Huot, along with her brothers and sisters Edna Vantine, Morris Waldron, Mildred Griffis, Earl Waldron, Gladys Strickland, Marion Saunders and two infant siblings Mollie Margaret Waldron and Henry Jackson Waldron.
She was a military wife for over 25 years. She was a current member of North Jacksonville Baptist Church (NJBC), Jacksonville, FL. Prior to NJBC she was a long-standing member of Springhill Baptist Church. During her time at Springhill Baptist Church, she taught three-year-olds in Sunday School, was the Preschool Director, Hospitality Coordinator. She loved to sing and was a member of the choir for many years.
Mrs. Wade worked most of her life including working at several Navy Exchanges at various Naval bases, worked in retail, worked 10 years as a greeter at a local Wal-Mart and worked 17 years as the custodian of Springhill Baptist Church.
Her hobbies included gardening, baking, cooking, sewing, shark-tooth hunting and loving on her family and friends. She instilled a love of God and family in us all. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and her laugh was infectious.
She leaves behind her children, Cindy Guidry, Debbie (John) Currin, David (Janice) Hicks, Michael Wade, and daughter-in-law Merrie Hicks, her step-daughter, Yvonne “Chris” Wade; her grandchildren Danielle (Bill) Baughn, Michelle Guidry, Stephen Sanderson, Hannah Avera, Brooke (Courtney) Hicks, Beckie (Joe) Cali, Britnie (Michael) Gardiner, Aaron Huot, Jimmy Wade, as well as, 25 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday, September 18th, 2025, from 5-7 pm at Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors, Fernandina Beach, FL.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 19th, 2025, at 11:00 am in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors, with Pastor Darryl Bellar officiating.
She will be laid to rest at Kettle Creek Cemetery in Waycross, GA later the same day at 3:00 pm.
