Elizabeth �Betty� Stone Davis

Mrs. Elizabeth �Betty� Stone Davis, 89, of Fernandina Beach, passed away on Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, at the Northeast Florida Community Hospice�s Jane and Bill Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach.
Betty, as she was known to family and friends, was the only daughter of H.F. �Snap� Stone Sr. and Bertha Brewer Stone of Fernandina. A lifelong resident of Fernandina Beach, she graduated from Fernandina High School in 1944 and attended Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga.
During World War II, Betty was active in the Red Cross. After Pearl Harbor, she also served her country as a civilian volunteer �plane spotter� in the Army Air Forces Ground Observer Corps. The mission was to identify enemy aircraft in time to prevent future attacks. She continued to serve in the Red Cross after the war ended.
She also worked as a nurse and as the assistant to the superintendent of schools, Nassau County School District, retiring in the mid-1970s.
Betty was preceded in death by her brother, H.F. �Hugh� Stone Jr.; her son, David F. Daniel Sr., M.D.; two nieces, Paulina and Elizabeth Stone; and her husbands, Harry F. Sahlman Jr., Benjamin E. Daniel Jr., M.D., and Ernest P. Davis Jr.
Survivors include son Harry F. �Hal� Sahlman III (Ana), grandson Sam and granddaughter Margaux Walls (Bryan); son Benjamin E. Daniel III; son Mutt J. Daniel (Robyn) and grandsons Hunter and Fisher; son McArthur H. �Mac� Daniel; son Luke Daniel (Sherry), grandson Ashley Daniel (Lisa) and great-grandchildren Noah and Ruby; granddaughter Brittany Vafiadis (Jesse); stepdaughter Diane Davis, M.D. (Barb); stepson the Rev. Ernest P. Davis III (Valerie) and grandchildren Jane-Margaret Davis Doan (Viet), Chet and Ian; stepson Clyde W. Davis (April) and grandchildren Bud and Mandy; stepdaughter Peg Davis (Paula); brother David G. Stone Sr. (Deborah) of Chiefland, Fla.; nephew David Stone Jr. (Lisa) and sons David Stone III and Jarred Shewey (Rose); nephew H.F. �Hugh� Stone III (Kitty), son Ryan Stone (Jenni) and grandchildren Ayla and Weston; son Gill Stone (Heather) and grandchildren Thomas and Cadance; niece Lisa Stone Cunningham, son Will Cunningham (Larkin), children Landin, Hudson and Heath, daughter Kelly Dillavou (Shaun), granddaughter Raegan.
A longtime member of First Baptist Church of Fernandina, Betty was the epitome of a Southern lady and devoted to her faith, family and friends. Her ready smile, sense of humor and genuine interest in others will be missed by all who knew her.
She will be cremated and her ashes spread over the ocean by her family at a later time.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016, in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard with Chaplain Jackie Hayes officiating.
Her family will receive friends on Wednesday at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the hour of service.
