I was extremely saddened to hear about this passing. I will continue to pray for your family I cannot imagine what you’re going through. I did not know Emily very well but my son did he only said that she was an extremely nice girl and nothing but kind… That is the Best kind of perspective that you would want from raising your child into an adult.
Larry Waldman and Family
Janet, Doug and Douglas, our thoughts and prayers, deepest and sincere condolences. Your angel Emily was such a bright light, and she will be greatly missed. She was truly loved by all, and she absolutely adored her family. It's with such sadness and sorrow having to write this, but I take comfort, as I think of Emily's pureness, her bright light and the beautiful person she was/is both inside and out and she will be forever up in heaven looking down on her very loving family. For the brief time and blessing, that I had gotten to know Emily, it was an absolute pleasure and joy watching her grow over the past three plus years, not only as a teenager becoming a young adult, but as a young professional taking the reins of a business, she so dearly loved and how proud I was of her. I am a better person for knowing Emily, and she will be greatly missed. Love, Larry W

Doug and Janet, it seems like yesterday I was talking to Doug about the blessing of being pregnant with Emily. We walked the halls in Tallahassee advocating for the rights of the disabled and looked forward to the days our children would carry on our legacy. It was not long after that Emily was a little girl up there with you learning from the best. I have no doubt she would have put us to shame with her abilities and that amazing smile that would light up the room and disarm any adversary debating with her. She was a Godly, Beautiful, Young Woman that was a gift to us all. You two are amazing parents who so deeply love your children and were instrumental leading them to Christ. I cannot begin to express my condolences and am so so sorry. I am still in disbelief and know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and family. I love and admire the Adkins family and will always be here if you need anything.

Emily was a bright young woman passionate about the family business and the individuals they provide services too. She was an advocate for them but also for the assisted living industry. The death of a child is like no other. The void never fills. The grief stays forever but changes form over time. Doug, Janet and Douglas, please treasure every memory and never miss a chance to talk about Emily.
Lynn Anderson
I had the pleasure of meeting Emily along side her father at a FALA conference and I knew then that she would become a leader in our industry. You could see the love for her in Doug's eyes and that she was definitely daddy's little girl. Her smile was contagious, her love for the industry was evident and her grace was perfection. It was an honor to meet her, see the love for humankind in her heart and to know that she would be a leader in our industry that cares for our seniors. My heart breaks for Doug, Janet and Douglas. Prayers lifted for Emily, her family and friends. God Bless all of you!
Emily Adkins

Emily Elizabeth Adkins, age 23, passed away at Baptist Medical Center surrounded by her parents on October 21, 2022.
Emily began her love for learning at Amelia Island Montessori School where she quickly made friends and influenced others with her love of dresses. She graduated from Fernandina Beach High School in 2017. She received the Bright Futures Scholarship and graduated from the University of North Florida in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Administration. She was employed as the People Success Officer at the family-owned assisted living facilities (Dayspring Senior Living and Dayspring Village). Upon graduation from college, Emily bought a house in Yulee and was enjoying her new home.
Emily was an emerging leader in Florida’s Assisted Living Communities and had gained the skills necessary to manage the most important aspect of any business – people. She successfully completed the ALF Administrator Competency certification and held a professional food service manager’s license. Emily was kind, logical, practical, fair, rule-driven, and clear-headed when a problem had to be addressed.
As a child, Emily loved to go to the beach where she would run and play in the ocean’s surf and look for shells or seaside treasure. She loved swimming, enjoyed movies and was an expert in Anime movies. Emily was an avid reader and what could be described as a classic “bookie”. Everything from fan fiction to Marvel were her genre.
Emily accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and Lord on May 26, 2011 and was a member of Blackrock Baptist Church. Emily loved to sing worship songs and had the voice of an angel. She enjoyed singing in the Glenwood choir. Her childhood trips to Bell, Florida with her grandparents was a highlight each summer as she sang, “Boys and Girls for Jesus”. Her joy was contagious as her face glowed with smiles
Growing up, Emily was active in local sports with YMCA basketball and AIYS soccer association. She played the piano and participated in middle and high school band. She graduated from Fernandina Beach Cotillions and was always interested in the next big event.
Emily loved to travel and was looking forward to the next family adventure. She travelled to Austria, the Bahamas, Belize, Canada, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Israel (twice), Italy, Mexico, Switzerland, and many of the states. She had a great sense of direction and was always leading the way through airports, train stations, and city streets.
Wise for her years, Emily was a hard-working volunteer in local, state, and federal campaigns. No one would outwork Emily whether it was knocking on doors, making calls, stuffing envelopes, or waving a sign for her candidate. She loved America and the freedom she enjoyed.
Emily was her mom’s best friend, the heart of her father, and a constant companion with her brother. She loved July 4th family reunions at Hart Springs. She loved Christmas and the special meaning and blessing of the holiday. She was full of life and fun!
