Condolences:

Frances Wall

I had not seen Eric in years but he was one of my favorite people. He had such a wonderful dry sense of humor. Gosh, he looked so much like his Dad. I know he will be missed so much.

Bob Weintraub

Eric and I took a canoe trip around Crane Island to prove it is an island, something which the developer claimed it wasn't. We walked on the island to see what was said to be the largest magnolia tree in Florida, and the bald eagle nest. (yes, we were traspassing!)

Deborah Lambert

Eric was a quiet guy. He clearly loved Winifred and was devote to nature.

Eric Logan Titcomb

2026-04-07

Eric Logan Titcomb, 78, of Fernandina Beach, Florida and Monterey, Virginia, passed away on April 7, 2026 at home with family.

Eric was born in Jacksonville to Earl F Titcomb, Sr and Lucy Schout Titcomb, the 5th of 6 lively children. The family lived up and down the East Coast, including Miami, Savannah, Burlington, Vermont and Richmond, Virginia. Eric graduated from the University of Richmond with a history degree, married Martha “Robi” Diggs for 2 years (a son, Eric Logan Titcomb, Jr). Later, he earned his registered respiratory therapy degree.

He married H. Winifred Stephenson June 2, 1979. They remained married for 46 years, adding another son, Alexander Gordon Titcomb, in 1994. Eric moved to Fernandina Beach, Florida in 1985 to found Amelia Home Health Services and later Cumberland Medical Services. He sold them and retired in 2013. In addition to running his businesses, he was an active volunteer in environmental causes.

He enjoyed many outdoor adventures, from living on our sailboat, Dancer, for almost 2 years to hiking and biking to places as different as Florida’s Cypress Swamp, Titcomb Basin in Wyoming, and Bay of Fundy National Park, with all the stories one would expect. Not to mention a short stay in a derelict VW bus with young son Logan at “Cuckoo Farm,” a ‘70’s commune in rural Virginia.

Once in Florida, Eric walked our early morning beaches as a certified member of the Amelia Island Turtle Patrol, helping to find and protect turtle nests and nestlings for years. Eric and wife Winifred were two of the founding members of Nassau County Sierra Group. Eric was elected Chair several times and remained an Outings Chair for years. Favorite outings were Sunset/Moonlight Canoe trips to Okefenokee Swamp. Despite glowing eyes along the return paddle in the silvery moonlit waters, no participants were ever lost to alligators. Eric and friends led a brave fight to protect Crane Island from development, fending off two efforts before greed took over. Now, the bald eagles the developers said weren’t there are star attractions.

Eric was predeceased by his parents, and 3 sisters, Denyse O’Hagan, Donna Stringfellow and Mary Barr Lacoss.

He leaves behind his wife, Winifred Stephenson; a brother, Earl F. Titcomb, Jr of Savannah; a sister, Gail Titcomb White of Amelia Island; his sons, Logan (Libby Bentley) and Alexander; a granddaughter, Arden Zheng Bentley, as well as numerous nieces including his Goddaughter, Mary Lee Lacoss Forehand (Ben) and nephews, and an ever-growing number of talented great grand nieces and nephews.

When asked how he would like to be remembered, Eric said he was proudest of being a good husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was, and more.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, May 29, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors.

Donations in his memory may be made to Nassau County Sierra Group, Highlands Bird and Nature Club, or the environmental group of your choosing.
