Erica Danielle Gibbs

2024-03-16

Erica Danielle Gibbs, 45, of Hortense, GA passed away Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the Morris Center for Caring in Jacksonville.

Born in Jacksonville, Erica was a daughter of Janice Louise Wilder Barber and the late Henry Elton Barber. She was raised in the Nassauville area and was a 1996 graduate of Fernandina Beach High School.

While living in Hortense, she worked at Scott’s Barbeque in Waynesville, GA. Erica was a lover of animals and an avid animal rescuer. She loved the water, being at the beach and wildflowers. She had an adventurous soul and loved the outdoors. Whether it was hunting for sharks’ teeth on the beach, riding four wheelers or staying in her “home away from home” Apalachicola, her father’s hometown.

Erica was an empathetic soul. She was always concerned for family and friends above herself and that was never truer than during her most recent illness. Her joyful way and friendly manner could be summed up in hearing her say to nearly everyone, “Hey Baby” while addressing them.

She leaves behind her husband, Justin Gibbs, also of Hortense; her mother, Janice Barber of Nassauville; her daughters, Anna Leigh Gehringer, of Fernandina Beach and Lauren Grace Bennett of Yulee; her son, Jack Murphy of Yulee; a step-daughter, Autumn Marie Gibbs of Tampa; her siblings, Jessica (Lance) Ezell and Elijah (Monica) Barber, both of Yulee; her nieces and nephews, Alex, Evan, Avery, Asher, and Aidan; her best friend, Lee Ann Camp, her dog Stella as well as a large extended family.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Legacy Baptist Church beginning at 11:00 AM. Rev. Mike Scott will officiate. She will be laid to rest at Wilder Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Elijah Barber, Robert Barber, Ryan Cason, Kevin Shearer, Lance Ezell, Alex Smith and Terry Wilder.
