Ernest L. Smith, 68, of Fernandina Beach passed away Monday, December 16, 2024.

Born in Homerville, GA, he was the son of the late John A. and Vernitha Gillis Smtih. He and his familiy moved to Nassau County when he was a child and he had lived in the Nassauville area for much of his life.

Mr. Smith was a truck driver and had worked for Bennett’s Logging for many years. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR and being with his family. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother, James Smith.

He leaves behind his children, Amy Wilson and her husband, Freddy and Ernest “Bubba” Smith, both of Yulee; a sister, Linda Heberlie of Park Hills, MO; seven grandchildren, Kelton, Alexis, Amaya, Alyssa, Ella, Arya and Braven and two great-grandchildren, Kolton and Wrenley.

A service to remember and celebrate his life will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors.
