Ernest R. Hill Sr.

r. Ernest R. Hill, Sr., 84, of Fernandina Beach passed away Friday, January 18, 2019 at the Warner Center for Caring.

Born in Jacksonville, he was the son of the late Woodrow Hill and Evelyn Anderson Hill. He was raised on Jacksonville�s Phoenix Avenue neighborhood and lived in Jacksonville as a young man.

He served in the U. S. Army where he was a paratrooper and at one time was stationed overseas in Germany. After his service he returned home to Jacksonville and began his career as an electrician.

Over the years he worked on many projects as an electrician. He was a proud member of IBEW 177 in Jacksonville where he was a member of the Pension Board and Past President of the local shop.

Some years ago he moved to Fernandina Beach and has made his home here to this day. It was here he met his wife, the former Linda Smith. Their life together would span some 29 years. He enjoyed fishing a great deal but truly loved his motorcycles. He owned three but was especially proud of the two Harley-Davidsons he had. He even got Linda into riding with him.

He leaves behind his wife, Linda Hill; a son, Ernest R. Hill, Jr.; grandchildren, Amanda and Dustin as well as cousins and other extended family members.

Funeral services for Mr. Hill will be held Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley � Heard Funeral Directors with Pastor Lyle Shiferdek, Jr. of Believer�s Joy Worship Center will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 30, 2019 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

He will be laid to rest at Jacksonville National Cemetery with military honors.
